Date Sold 4/25/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 28" x 42 1/4" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) The Man With Two Mothers, the 1922 Paul Bern silent comedy ("Dennis begins to like the place"; "Dennis has a birthday"; "And now the two mothers understand"; "Here was the gir-rul he was a-hidin'") starring Mary Alden ("The Mother of 'The Old Nest'"), Cullen Landis, Sylvia Breamer, Hallam Cooley, and Fred Huntley. Note that this movie was directed by Paul Bern, who, in one of Hollywood's most bizarre episodes ever (which is saying a lot!), married the much young Jean Harlow in 1932 and then shot himself after their honeymoon, apologizing for "a frightful wrong" in a suicide note! It has been rumored that he was actually murdered, and the suicide was a coverup by MGM "fixers"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! In the late 1910s through the early 1930s, MGM (and sometimes Paramount and a couple of other studios) would often make a regular one-sheet for a movie and, instead of a second style regular one-sheet, would instead make a special "rotogravure" one-sheet. Named after the rotogravure picture sections at the time popular in Sunday newspapers, these one-sheets would be printed in a single color, often sepia, but sometimes other colors, and they would usually incorporate pictorial images from the movie combined in a montage fashion. Very few rotogravure one-sheet have survived, since they were printed on the same paper stock used in newspapers of the time, and the paper is very fragile and often darkens. Condition: fair to good. The poster was folded in half an extra time resulting in vertical foldlines at left and right and it has much separation in the leftmost vertical fold (see our image). The folds hand separation have made the poster somewhat fragile and difficult to handle. It should be preserved and linenbacked, but please bear in mind the cost of restoration before placing a bid.
