eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result #163 SONNY LC '22 Barthelmess Date Sold 1/8/2002Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. Original Vintage Theatrical Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Sonny, the 1922 Henry King silent World War I (WWI) mistaken identity family relationship romantic love triangle melodrama ("George V. Hobart's Drama of Motherless Manhood"; "From the play by George V. Hobart"; a really wild story of best friends who look incredibly alike, and they both enlist in World War I, and one of them is killed, and his dying wish is that his best friend go home and impersonate him, so his family won't be sad, including his blind mother and girlfriend, and amazingly, they seem to be fooled by the deception!) starring Richard Barthelmess (in a dual role, both as the title "Sonny" and his lookalike best friend!), Margaret Seddon, Pauline Garon, Lucy Fox, Herbert Grimwood, Patterson Dial, and Fred Nicholls. Note that it was a pretty common plot device in silent movies to not only have people meet their exact double, but also to then go on to impersonate them. I wonder if this happens much in real life! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a hand-colored card. In the days of silent film prior to the invention of good quality full-color printing, studios would have lobby cards printed in black and white and then amazingly would hire women to hand-color the cards one at a time (apparently labor was very cheap at the time)! So, each card is colored slightly differently, and the coloring is never a perfect match. Condition: very good to fine. There is a tack hole in each corner. There is some minor black staining in the left of the bottom blank border. Learn More about condition grades
