Gordon Edwards Italian/U.S. silent Ancient Rome Italy historical biographical romantic melodrama ("Story by Charles Sarver and Virginia Tracy"; an epic re-telling of the life of Nero, including all the major events) starring Jacques Gretillat (in the title role as Nero), Sandro Salvini, Guido Trento, Enzo De Felice, Nerio Bernardi, Violet Mersereau (the only American in the cast), Adolfo Trouche (as Hercules), Paulette Duval (as Poppaea), and Edy Darclea. Note that Fox spent lots of money on this production and it was filmed in Italy, and includes scenes of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the burning of Rome! This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had been trimmed on three sides, extending slightly into the edge of the background in each side. The rest of the image area was in pretty nice condition. A talented restorer re-created the slight bit of missing image on each of the three sides, and the card displays wonderfully!
