A Vintage English Hardcover Book (measures 5" x 7 1/2" [13 x 19 cm]; 160 pages) (Learn More)

A Matter of Life and Death (released in the U.S. in 1947 as "Stairway to Heaven"), the classic 1946 Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English afterlife fantasy romantic melodrama ("In New Chromatic Technicolor!"; a fascinating movie; the early scenes are in color and then, artfully, the scenes in heaven are in black and white, kind of reverse from the usage of color in The Wizard of Oz) starring David Niven, Raymond Massey, Roger Livesey, Kim Hunter, Marius Goring, and Robert Coote. Note that American Kim Hunter played a lead role in this film, and she was the first American actress to appear in an English movie after World War II ended.

Important Added Info: Note that this English hardcover book is "the book of the film", published by World Film Publications in 1946, in its original dust jacket. It is like U.S. photoplay editions in that it has a great number of full-page images from the movie interspersed throughout, but it also has a great section at the back called "The Making of the Film", which has nine pages of text, and 36 pages of images from the movie that are mostly candids, with captions telling about the images (none of these images are pictured, but trust us that they are really wonderful!). Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. As noted above, we have also pictured the dust jacket entirely opened and we have pictured the inside of the entire dust jacket, since we know collectors value that jacket and want to see its exact condition.

Condition: good to very good. The dust jacket has tears and tiny bits of paper loss around the edges (see our images). The book itself is in pretty nice condition, with some slight damage at the bottom of the spine.
