An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Jumbo Lobby Card (LC; measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Mary Brian (born Louise Byrdie Dantzler) was an actress from the 1920s to the 1950s. She was born in 1906 in Texas, and in 1923, her stage mother took her to Hollywood, determined to make her a star. After much effort, she was signed to appear in Peter Pan as Wendy, and that got her a five year movie contract. She was a "girl next door" type, and was nicknamed "The Sweetest Girl in Pictures". She had no problem making the transition to sound, but in the early 1930s, when flapper and vamp types became more popular, roles became fewer, and she took secondary parts. In 1936, she made a movie in England, and then went to Broadway, and in the 1950s, she had success on television. Some of her movies include: Brown of Harvard, Beau Geste, Man on the Flying Trapeze, and The Virginian. She passed away in 2002 at the age of 96. Important Added Info: Note that all of the studios made "vertical" half-sheet posters (28" x 22") that each had an image of their top stars, sometimes with no borders, and sometimes with borders. These started in the very early 1910s, and continued into the middle 1940s! Sometimes they would be distributed with specific movies from those stars, and sometimes they would be sold as sets. They are all at least somewhat rare, and some are impossible to find. In addition, studios made similar "jumbo lobby card portraits" (17" x 14"), also with a vertical orientation, and also with a head shot of a leading star. These are even more rare than the half-sheet portraits, and a very few of them are known to exist. We have been consigned an amazing large collection of jumbo lobby cards, which includes a number of these portraits, and all of them are being auctioned, each in its own auction. This is a rare opportunity to purchase these super rarities! Condition: very good to fine. There is a tiny tear in the bottom right corner, which has a tiny piece of conservation tape on the reverse. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
