8 1942 Re-Release Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Torrid Zone, the 1940 William Keighley banana plantation adventure romantic love triangle comedy ("Triple Tropical Trouble ... Cagney ...Sheridan ...O'Brien!"; about a man who runs a fruit plantation in a banana republic in Central America, and he hires an old pal to help him, but that causes problems both financially and romantically) starring James Cagney ("goes native!"), Ann Sheridan ("goes after him!"), Pat O'Brien ("goes after 'em both!"), Andy Devine, Helen Vinson, Jerome Cowan, George Tobias, and George Reeves

Important Added Info: Note that this a very rare complete set of lobby cards for this movie (we have never auctioned a complete set of cards for this title in all of our years of auctioning!) Note also that we know that this movie was given a quick re-release in 1942, when Warner Bros' top stars were all in the service and not making movies. But both the 1940 set and the 1942 set are not on linen finish cards, so it seems impossible to distinguish 1940 scene cards from 1942 scene cards (except for the 1942 title card, which has "re-released" in a box on it). If anyone has more information about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. The title card has two tiny blank border tears at left that has been repaired with tape from the back. A thin pencil line at lower left was partially erased and it has some minor edge wear and a few minor scuff marks in portions of the image. The card with the soldiers holding Sheridan has much discoloration at center due to exposure to the elements (it is in "fair to good" condition). The card with the gambling scene at lower center has a few pinholes in the upper edge (repaired with tape from the back) and around the edges. The card with O'Brien holding a drink at left has a few tiny tears in the upper left blank border that have been repaired with conservation tape from the back. The remaining cards have some minor edge wear. Overall, several cards are in "very good" condition, and with the exception of the one card mentioned above, the rare complete set is in generally nice condition!
