eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 7a372 SHIP OF LOST MEN Danish program 1930 Marlene Dietrich before The Blue Angel, ultra rare! Date Sold 6/23/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1930 (from the first release of this movie in Denmark) Original Vintage Theatrical Danish Movie Program (measures 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" [15 x 22 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Das Schiff Der Verlorenen Menschen (released in the U.S. as "The Ship of Lost Men"), the 1929 Maurice Tourneur French/German silent seafaring mutiny thriller melodrama (about a dishonest sea captain who smuggles fugitives out of Germany; he ends up with two American stowaways, one a young doctor who had been shanghaied, and the other a pretty young American heiress who was shipwrecked, and the captain keeps them hidden from the vile crew, but then there is a mutiny!) starring Fritz Kortner, Marlene Dietrich, Robin Irvine, Vladimir Sokoloff, and Gaston Modot. Note that many people think that The Blue Angel was Marlene Dietrich's first movie, but actually she had been in a number of German movies for several years prior to that. This was two movies before the Blue Angel, and she is second billed. In her next movie, Nights of Love, she was top billed, and then came The Blue Angel, which made her an international star. Interestingly, in this movie, she plays an American, even though she was in no way American, but of course the entire cast was German, and she could speak English, which perhaps some of the other cast members could not do. Movie paper from any of Dietrich's pre-Blue Angel movies is incredibly rare! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was first released in Germany in 1929, and Marlene Dietrich was second billed. But in this Danish program she is top billed. Therefore we think it is extremely likely this movie was released in Denmark in 1930, after The Blue Angel made Dietrich a major star. Note also that first release movie paper from this pre-Blue Angel Marlene Dietrich movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this Danish program! Also note that we have pictured the front and back covers and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Condition: good. Learn More about condition grades
