An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 3/4" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 152 pages) (Learn More) The Day of the Dolphin, the 1973 Mike Nichols science fiction (sci-fi) scuba diving talking-to-animals fantasy thriller ("The most amazing outdoor adventure ever filmed! Two years in the making! Awesome excitement!"; "'A spine-tingling tale that might just come true.'"; "Unwittingly, he trained a dolphin to kill the President of the United States."; "Based on a novel by Robert Merle"; "Screenplay by Buck Henry", who also provided the human voice for the dolphins; about a scientist whose talking dolphins are kidnapped so they can be used in an assassination attempt!) starring George C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, Paul Sorvino, Fritz Weaver, and Jon Korkes. Note that Roman Polanski was set to direct this movie in August of 1969, and he had previously written a screenplay, based on Robert Merle's novel. But he was in London looking for a location to film the movie at, when he received word that his pregnant wife Sharon Tate had been murdered by the Manson family on August 9, 1969, and he abandoned the movie. Four years later, Mike Nichols needed to direct one more movie to fulfill his 4-picture contract with producer Joseph Levine, and he made this movie, and Buck Henry wrote a new screenplay. One can only imagine how different the Polanski version of this movie would have been from the Nichols/Henry version! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script is the first draft from August 1969 and the screenplay was written by Roman Polanski. Note that someone went through the script and circled the names of most of the minor characters with a red marker (it seems likely it was done by someone who was making a list of the roles that they needed to cast). Also note that this script was consigned to us directly from director/screenwriter Charles Shyer. Mr. Shyer is the director of many extremely popular movies from the 1970s to the present, many of which are romantic comedies, including House Calls, Private Benjamin, Baby Boom, remakes of Father of the Bride and The Parent Trap, and many others. Over the years, he collected scripts, which he received primarily in two different ways. He was friends with screenwriters, directors, and producers during those years, and they would sometimes send him scripts of their movies to get his opinion of them, and many of those are offered here. In addition, as a member of the screenwriter's branch of the Academy, he was sent many scripts where the producers hoped that their script would be nominated for a Best Screenwriting Academy Award, and many of these have "for your consideration" printed on the cover. This is a rare opportunity to purchase original scripts that come directly from the personal collection of a prominent director/screenwriter! Condition: very good. Note that we have photographed the cover of the script, the title page, the final page of the script (the one that reads "THE END"), and one or more interior pages. These images will not only provide important information about the script, but they also allow you to closely judge the condition of the script. The script is 100% complete!
