An Unfolded French Special Poster (measures 21" x 31" [53 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Peugeot is a French manufacturer of bicycles and motor vehicles which was founded in the 1800s by Jean Pequignot Peugeot. The company's lion trademark was created in 1858. At first they were a steelworks (creating eating utensils and hydraulic equipment), but started manufacturing bicycles in 1882. The company eventually expanded to other modes of transportation, and during World War I (WWI), Peugeot built nearly 63,000 bicycles per year, as well as 9,000 cars and trucks, 1,000 motorcycles and 10,000 plane engines. In 1926, the auto and bicycle manufacturing divisions at Peugeot were divided. Automobiles were constructed at Automobiles Peugeot, while bicycles were made at Cycles Peugeot. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: UPDATED 08/22/2019: Note that it seems quite likely that this advertisement was first created in the 1930s to promote Peugeot motorcycles. As the Auction Title points out, the poster offered here is surely from a later date, likely the 1960s, but we are unsure how and why it was distributed. Condition: very good. The poster has some tape staining on back of the corners that are still somewhat tacky. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
