Nurse Edith Cavell, the 1939 Herbert Wilcox World War I (WWI) military medical doctor melodrama ("A woman crushed by the iron fist of the German war machine!"; "This woman must die!"; "True!.. Thrilling!.. Tremendous!"; "The military verdict that shocked the world!...For her fate had hung on one single world--and her only crime was devotion!...You can't know WAR until you've seen this picture...and you can't know pictures until you've seen this great NEW KIND of drama! One page of fact speaking louder than volumes of fiction..."; about the true story of Edith Cavell, who was a British nurse who served with the underground in Belgium during the First World War, and helped hundreds of British soldiers escape before she was caught and executed by the Germans) starring Anna Neagle (in the title role; billed as "Anna Neagle in her first Hollywood appearance as Nurse Edith Cavell"), Edna May Oliver, George Sanders, May Robson, Zasu Pitts, H.B. Warner, Sophie Stewart, Mary Howard, and Robert Coote. Note that this was a VERY inspiring and popular movie idea, because it was first made into a movie called "Nurse and Martyr" in 1915 shortly after it happened. Then came 1918's "The Cavell Case", and then there was another movie called "Dawn" in 1928, followed by this version.
