An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Robert Taylor (born Spangler Arlington Brugh) was a handsome leading man from the 1930s to the 1960s, who barely seemed to age! He was born in 1911 in Nebraska, and in high school he was a star athlete, a cello player, and a debate champion. He intended to become a musician, but in college he joined a theater group and he was given lead roles. In 1934, he was signed by MGM to a contract, and the next year he had his big break in the first version of "Magnificent Obsession", opposite Irene Dunne. The following year, he starred opposite Greta Garbo in "Camille", and he was a great favorite with female moviegoers. He remained with MGM for 24 years, interrupted by a 4 year stint in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II. In the 1930s, he raised and bred race horses! From 1939 to 1952, he was married to Barbara Stanwyck, and from 1954 until he passed away he was married to Ursula Theiss. Because he aged really well, he was able to play leading roles until the end of his career, when he switched to TV. Taylor passed away in 1969 at the age of 57. Important Added Info: Note that this is a key book still that measures 8" x 10 1/4". There are many key book stills that measure 8" x 11" and have punch holes in the extra 1", but this is one of the key book stills that measures 8" x 10" exactly, and has no punch holes, and it has a stamp on the back that reads "THIS IS A KEY SET PRINT". Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic. Note that this still likely has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has the letters "TRR". One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that 146 of the stills in this set of auctions come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of almost his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! We said earlier "likely has", because while this collector stamped most of his stills, he did not stamp every one, so you can see for yourself if this is one of the stamped ones by looking at our image of the back of the still. Each of those stamped stills are stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us! Condition: very good to fine. The still is in very nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
