WRIGLEY'S GUM WRIGLEY'S GUM billboard advertising poster OR search current auctions Auction History Result 5c094 WRIGLEY'S GUM billboard 1950s giant art of the chewing gum pack & woman with flowing hair! Date Sold 4/4/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Billboard Advertising Poster (measures approximately 9' x 20') (Learn More) Wrigley's Gum has been sold by the William Wrigley Jr. Company from 1892 to the present. The company was founded in 1891, originally selling products such as soap and baking powder. In 1892, the company began packaging chewing gum with each can of baking powder. The chewing gum (led by their "Juicy Fruit" brand) eventually became more popular than the baking powder and Wrigley's reoriented the company to produce the gum. Originally, the gum was promoted as a health aid ("it stimulates digestion, keeps your face and jaws plastic, helps endurance, steadies nerves, quenches thirst, guards against sore throat"!). Either eventually the government stopped them from making so many unproven claims, or they did so voluntarily, but eventually it became an alternative to candy that we all know and love! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this billboard poster was printed in 12 sections designed to overlap. Also note this poster was folded in a way that makes it resemble a tri-folded six-sheet (only much larger, of course, as there are more sections). But the length and width of the folded poster is just about the same as that of a folded six-sheet or three-sheet. This means that this poster needs to be sent in an oversized flat package, which will measure roughly 16" x 38", and approximately 2" high, and it will cost more to send than a regular sized package. Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Most of these items absolutely can only be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. Some of them might SEEM like they could be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet, but they can't. The reason these items are in this auction is specifically because they CAN'T be rolled (because rolling any of them would damage them, even if they somehow can be rolled). So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item when ready for shipping), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. IN THE CASE OF EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, THE SHIPPING COST WILL BE VERY HIGH, SO PLEASE DO NOT BID WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THAT ADDED SHIPPING AMOUNT, AND INCLUDE THAT AMOUNT IN WHAT YOU BID (so if you would pay $150, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50). And those who live outside the U.S. and who do not have a U.S. address to ship to SHOULD NOT BID AT ALL ON EXTREMELY LARGE FLAT ITEMS, BECAUSE THEY COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SEND OUTSIDE THE U.S. Condition: fair to good. There is much discoloration throughout the poster from exposure to moisture. There is deterioration and paper loss along parts of some foldlines and edges. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
