An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Dragon Painter, the 1919 William Worthington silent Japanese artist romantic melodrama (a clever story of a young great painter who is obsessed with finding a mythical "dragon princess" hiding in the mountains of Japan; he meets a master painter who treats him like a son, and the old painter convinces his daughter to pose as the "dragon princess"; it works too well, because after the young painter marries her, he loses his interest in painting; his wife feels terrible and leaves a suicide note, but actually joins a religious order; her husband tries to drown himself, but while he is drowning, he sees a vision of her telling him to start painting again, and he does, painting a masterpiece, and when she hears what he has done, she leaves the religious order and they are reunited) starring Sessue Hayakawa (in the title role as Tatsu, the Dragon Painter), Toyo Fujita, Edward Peil Sr., and Tsuru Aoki NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has never been folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It has much paper loss in the right border, but it only affects the blank border, the solid border, and a tiny bit of the background. There is a 7" tear in the middle right that was repaired with tape from the back. There are stains around the edges, with added paper loss in the bottom left blank corner. This poster is an excellent candidate for restoration, because much of the poster is unaffected, including almost all of the image and the entire title and credit. After proper restoration, the poster will look great! Learn More about condition grades
