Date Sold 8/14/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Spanish Campaign Book (measures 8 1/2" x 10 3/4" [22 x 27 cm]; 44 pages) (Learn More) Universal 1934-35, the 1934 Spanish Universal Studios campaign book featuring the release of upcoming Universal movies in Spain in the coming year. Note that while the cover of this Spanish campaign book is very similar to the cover of the 1934-35 U.S. campaign book (the art was copied from it), this book does NOT have the same movies advertised as in the U.S. campaign book. This is almost surely because the U.S. movies did not arrive in Spain until the following year! So instead of the movies Universal made in 1935, it has movies Universal made in 1934. For example, the U.S. version has Bride of Frankenstein, a 1935 movie, while this book has The Black Cat (re-titled "Satanas"), which was made in 1934. The campaign book includes mostly two-color images of ads for the major upcoming Universal films including The Black Cat (which has art of Lugosi and Karloff which we have never seen before), Imitation of Life, and many other 1934 Universal movies. We have included images of the cover of the book and several of the two-page spreads (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones!). Note that Spanish campaign books (from Spain) are even more rare than U.S. campaign books of the same period! This is likely because of the paper drives during World War II. Virtually no Spanish campaign books survive from any year from before World War II! Important Added Info: Note that this Spanish campaign book, which we have never auctioned before, originally had two staples at the spine. The staples are long missing, so all of the pages are loose. It is possible that it could have a missing center fold, but we have no reason to think so, and we believe it to be complete, although we can't verify that unless another example of this incredibly rare campaign book would surface! Condition: good to very good. The staples are missing. There are many smudges in the background areas on the covers. The book was once lightly folded down the middle. Otherwise, it is in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
