An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Sands of Iwo Jima, the classic 1950 Allan Dwan World War II (WWII) United States Marine Corps (USMC) military action thriller ("A great human story... Makes a mighty motion picture!"; "The Marines have landed... And the situation is well in hand!"; "The Marines' Greatest Hour!") starring John Wayne (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), John Agar, Adele Mara, Forrest Tucker, Wally Cassell, James Brown (NOT the famous singer!), Richard Webb, Arthur Franz, Julie Bishop, James Holden, Peter Coe, and Richard Jaeckel NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is marked "A" at bottom right and there is another poster that is not marked (that we refer to as "style B" as we know that this is the style A poster.) What is odd is that the two posters are very similar to each other, each with the image of John Wayne in full gear charging, and the flag raising image with the soldiers, but one has John Wayne hugging Adele Mara, and the other has him kissing Adele Mara! Note also that this poster has never been machine folded! Some pre-1970 half-sheet posters were machine folded twice horizontally at the poster exchange, while some were not. It can be difficult to find an unfolded example of many pre-1970 half-sheet posters (note that most post-1970 half-sheets were NOT machine folded, so they are pretty much only found unfolded, and therefore this does not apply to those half-sheets). Condition: good to very good. The poster has several pairs of staple holes along the blank borders and the right and left blank borders are backed by brown tape. There are some ink stains at lower center in portions of the background art (see our image) and there are a few smudges around the edges and in a few areas of the title. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition, and it could be displayed as it is, but after paperbacking with some restoration to the above areas, it would look great! Learn More about condition grades
