An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 5" x 8" [13 x 20 cm] when folded, measures 8" x 20" when unfolded; 8 pages) (Learn More)

The Wizard of Oz, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming family magical fantasy adventure musical ("MGM's miracle musical show of shows!"; "It's Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Technicolor triumph!"; "Magnificent in its brilliant Technicolor splendor!"; "At Last It's Here Biggest Sensation Since "Snow White"!"; "The mighty miracle show that is the talk of America!"; "Amazing sights to see! The Tornado, Munchkinland, Horse of a Different Color, Startling Balloon Ascent, The Flying Monkeys, The Tree That Throws Apples"; "Gaiety! Glory! Glamour!"; based on the classic book of the same name by L. Frank Baum; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Judy Garland (as Dorothy), Frank Morgan (in the title role as The Wizard of Oz!), Ray Bolger (as The Scarecrow), Bert Lahr (as The Cowardly Lion), Jack Haley (as The Tin Man), Billie Burke (as Glinda, the Good Witch), Margaret Hamilton (as the Wicked Witch), Charley Grapewin, "The Munchkins", and Toto too! Note that MGM was worried about how well this movie would do at the box office, and they did something we don't remember seeing on any other major movie advertising! One of the taglines says "Biggest sensation since Snow White", which means MGM was advertising a Walt Disney movie, but that shows just how worried they were! Of course, they needn't have worried, because this was a timeless classic that has only improved with age.

Important Added Info: Note that this herald is INCREDIBLY rare! The only time we have ever auctioned it was when it was "tipped-in" to the original pressbook, and that pressbook last sold for $8,265, so that is certainly a difficult way to obtain this herald, and we have never seen another until we were consigned this example! Not only does the herald contain a TON of information about the movie (much of which is likely seen nowhere else), but it also has the great artwork inside of the letters of the title, plus other images from the movie as well, and you can't find any of this anywhere else, except for some of it on a few posters, and those cost a zillion dollars! It is interesting to note a movie is advertised on both the cover of the herald and on the inside as being the "biggest sensation since Snow White", which shows just how afraid MGM must have been of the movie's success, because I can't recall any other case where one studio promoted another studio's movie! One could choose to frame the interior folded out section of the herald (which forms an 8" x 20" "poster"), but everything on the other side is wonderful as well. Please take time to read over everything and look at all the images packed into this herald!

Condition: very good. The herald was attached to an album with glue around the edges and in the middle of the blank back cover. It was removed from the album, and there is now surface paper attached to the blank back cover, but it has very little effect on the other side. There is a 2" tear in the top right corner of the blank back cover, which affects the lower right corner of the upper red image on the inside and there are some light creases scattered throughout the herald, but it certainly can be displayed and enjoyed exactly as it is!
