Important Added Info: Note that the posters for the 1948 Realart re-release of this 1942 Universal horror movie were created just six years after the original release. The re-release posters are likely just as rare as the originals, if not more so, likely because fewer theaters played the movie in 1948 than played it in 1942. The 1948 re-release posters have great different images that are not the same as those from the 1942 posters! We have previously auctioned three examples of a different style 1948 re-release half-sheet, but we have NEVER before auctioned this style, which has a clearly superior image to that of the other style, and is one of the coolest Frankenstein posters Realart ever created!

Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards.

Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thin paper backing, it can be sent rolled (however, it will be rolled with the image outward, because paperbacked posters should always be rolled that way, while linen posters are always rolled with the image inward), and it will likely need to be sent in a 6" tube, because rolling it more tightly might damage the poster.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfold and slight separation on the folds. It had a diagonal tear starting 3" above the middle of the left border, and running to the vertical fold in the middle of the upper part of the skull, and then running down the right side of the skull, through the right of the mouth, and into the bottom border. It also had a diagonal tear in the bottom right corner. It had some tears and areas of paper loss scattered around the edges, with some entering the edges of the image. It had some stains scattered in some of the letters of the title. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. It would seem a certainty that the poster was paperbacked a number of years ago, and that it was likely framed, and that caused the back of the paper backing to darken. It also caused the restoration paint used in the title area to age differently than the rest of the title, and it is surely much more noticeable now than when it was first applied. It I owned this wonderful poster, I would surely have the best restorer re-back it and perform modern restoration to its defects. Afterwards, this rare and ultra desirable poster will display incredibly!
