An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

The Hawk's Nest, the 1928 Benjamin Christensen Chicago Illinois silent romantic crime melodrama ("Story by Wid Gunning"; a wild story of a Chinatown restaurant owner who, after one of his employees is murdered, has plastic surgery so that he looks exactly like a notorious gangster, so that he can bring the murderer to justice; this seems like really extreme measures to me, but what do I know?) starring Milton Sills (in the title role as The Hawk), Doris Kenyon, Sojin, Montagu Love, Mitchell Lewis. Note that this movie was written by Wid Gunning, who had between 1921 and 1925 released four Charles Dickens adaptations in Denmark for release in Scandinavian countries. He lost much of his fortune on those four movies, and turned to screenwriting. If the unusual first name "Wid" seems familiar, it is because Mr. Gunning started the most famous trade magazine in early Hollywood, "Wid's Daily"!

Condition: very good. The card had some tiny tears, paper loss, and some smudges around the edges, but it was otherwise in nice condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the card (meaning they backed the card onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, so that the card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. You can see slight signs of the restoration, but the card displays really well!
