A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 8" x 10 3/4" [20 x 27 cm]; 165 pages) (Learn More) Photoplay Plot Encyclopedia, the 1920 Frederick Palmer & Eric Howard movie screenwriting guide ("An analysis of the use in photoplays of the thirty-six dramatic situations and their subdivisions") featuring plot suggestions and synopses of then recent films. Basically, this book was a guide on how to write screenplays for movies, because back in 1920, movies were exploding and just about everyone had dreams of getting into the movies either as an actor (which was not possible for most people), or as a screenwriter (which was definitely possible for anyone). This book breaks down 36 dramatic situations that are used over and over in movies, and it gives references to then recent movies, including Charlie Chaplin's "A Day's Pleasure", and many others.
