An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 11 1/4" [20 x 29 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Limehouse Blues, the 1934 Alexander Hall England interracial romance romantic love triangle Asian crime thriller (about a half Chinese half American from Chinatown, who goes to London and goes to the Limehouse District, where all the crime is, and he ruthlessly takes over, including a notorious nightclub, but when he falls for a "white" girl who is a pickpocket, that angers the Asian star singer of the nightclub) starring George Raft (he is half Chinese in this movie, and he wears "yellowface" makeup!), Jean Parker, Anna May Wong, Kent Taylor, and Montagu Love. Note that, as was common in early Hollywood, non-Asian actors were hired to play Asians, and they did this through the use of "yellowface" makeup (similar to "blackface" makeup that had been used for so long). Often, this was in movies that featured "interracial romances" between Asians and westerners, and those who participated in such romances were shunned and often they led to murders or suicides. Thankfully, these sorts of movies and the practice of actors performing in "yellowface" has almost completely been abandoned! Also note that "Limehouse" refers to a district in London. Note that this still is a key book still, printed on a deluxe heavyweight paper stock. Many studios spent extra money to have their most special photos, the key book stills, either backed with linen or printed on a heavy paper, both of which enhanced their durability. They had an extra 1" at the left or top, with punch holes, because of how they were stored. Key book stills are far more rare than regular stills, which has increased their popularity among collectors, since only a few keybooks were manufactured per film, and a key book still is guaranteed to be authentic.
