If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that original 1937 posters from this classic Frank Capra movie are extremely rare! We have only auctioned this poster once, and that was nine years ago! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Also note that because this poster was backed onto a fairly stiff heavyweight paper backing, we would MUCH prefer to send it in a large flat package rather than attempting to roll it in a tube, so bear that extra expense in mind before placing a bid on this poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had minor wear on the folds. It had pinholes, tears, and tiny paper loss around the edges. It had some paper loss in the "RA" of "FRANK" of Capra's credit, with a 5" semi-circular tear to the left of that, mostly in Wyatt's shoulder and extending into the bottom of her chin. There were some small stains scattered throughout the middle half of the poster, including some in both stars' faces. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. It was really nicely backed, but you can see some slight signs of the restoration in the blue background areas in the center of the poster (likely this is because the poster was restored years ago, and the restoration paint in that area has aged differently from the poster). The poster displays well as it is, or certainly, slight additional touch up could be performed. One would prefer to find an unrestored example of this poster, but given that it only comes to auction every decade or two, one might wait for a VERY long time for that to happen!
