A 1946 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 29" x 43 1/4" [74 x 110 cm]) (Learn More) Elephant Boy, the 1937 Robert Flaherty & Zoltan Korda English India jungle adventure thriller ("There have been all kinds of pictures... But never one like this!"; "Kipling's greatest 'Jungle Book' story... Filmed in Asiatic wildernesses that never before revealed their secrets to man!... Telling of the inseparable friendship between a little lad and the biggest elephant the world has ever seen!"; "The picture with a thousand elephants and a million thrills. Photographed in Asiatic jungles never before penetrated! Acted by the Maharajah's own hunters!"; "Based on the novel 'Toomai of the Elephants' by Rudyard Kipling"; produced by Alexander Korda) starring Sabu Dastagir (as Toomai; in his first movie!), W.E. Holloway, Walter Hudd, Allan Jeyes, and Bruce Gordon NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Osvaldo Venturi Important Added Info: Note that an advanced collector of Argentinean posters tells us that this poster (and other Argentinean posters from Guaranteed Pictures) are not from 1943, but are actually from the mid-to-late 1940s, and that they are re-releases. The date of 1943 comes from the poster but that is actually part of the company's street address! Apparently, Guaranteed Pictures made a deal to re-release several classic movies in the mid 1940s, and they produced posters for those re-releases with great art by the wonderful Argentinean poster artist, Osvaldo Venturi. Please do not bid on this poster thinking that it is a first release from 1943 as it is a 1946 re-release (we know this particular poster is from 1946, because Venturi put the date after his artist signature). Also note that for this re-release, the Argentinean distributor put Conrad Veidt's credit under Sabu's, but Veidt did not appear in this movie (no doubt the person who did that was going on memory, and confused this movie with 1940's "The Thief of Bagdad", where they did appear together (the poster has an image of an elephant and its Argentinean title is "Blood and Ivory", so it is surely from "Elephant Boy")! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss on the horizontal folds, with a lesser amount of wear on the vertical fold and in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
