La Bete Humaine, the 1938 (released in the U.S. in 1940) Jean Renoir French railroad train mental illness adultery romantic love triangle crime melodrama (based on the novel by Emile Zola; about a train engineer who witnesses the conductor killing his wife's lover on a train, but he says nothing because he wants the wife for himself, and he begins an affair with her, but she wants him to kill her husband so they can be together) starring Jean Gabin, Simone Simon, Fernand Ledoux, Blanchette Brunoy, Gerard Landry, and Julien Carette
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this French 4-panel poster has different art from the 2-panel for this classic movie. On the 4-panel, Gabin and Simon are hugging by a railroad train, and on the 2-panel, Gabin is staring at a distressed Simon by a harbor. In almost every other way, the two posters have the same credits and printing, so we believe both poster are surely first release posters (although the 2-panel has overprinting over the credits). We are auctioning an example of each of these rare and desirable posters in this set of auctions! Also note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this French four-panel measures 91 3/4" x 124 3/4" [233 x 317 cm]. Finally, note that this French four-panel was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap.

Condition: very good to fine. There is some minor wear on the foldlines and the borders, but overall, the poster has likely survived in as good condition as one could hope!
