Prestito Nazionale (literally translates to "National Loan"), the 1918 Italian World War I (WWI) War Bond poster announcing a 5% national consolidated war bond, and featuring Mario Borgoni art of a man protecting an Italian flag in one hand and wielding a sword in the other. Note that Italy was part of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary, but they did not join them when the war started. After secret negotiations with both sides (to see which would give them the most territory), Italy entered the war on the side of the Allied Powers. At the end of World War I, Italy was recognized with a permanent seat in the League of Nations' executive council along with Britain, France and Japan.
Artist: Mario Borgoni
