Date Sold 4/1/2008Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 2 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (measure 11" x 14") (Learn More) The Gorilla, the 1939 Allan Dwan detective mystery horror screwball comedy ("Based on the play by Ralph Spence"; about a wealthy man who is being threatened by a criminal known as "The Gorilla", and he hires three detectives to investigate, and things get really complicated when a real escaped gorilla shows up on the premises) starring The Ritz Brothers (Jimmy Ritz, Harry Ritz, and Al Ritz), Anita Louise, Patsy Kelly, Lionel Atwill, Bela Lugosi, Joseph Calleia, Edward Norris, Wally Vernon, and Art Miles (in the title role as the gorilla; he played a few gorillas over the years, which was only slightly better than the rest of his career, which was almost all uncredited roles). Note that poor Bela Lugosi's star had fallen quite a bit since his rise to fame in 1931 in Dracula. The same year this movie was made, he had a great role as Ygor in "Son of Frankenstein", but in this movie (made for 20th Century-Fox), he was seventh billed! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the top card in our image features Bela Lugosi, and the bottom card features all three Ritz brothers, and both cards feature the same cheesy gorilla that was a staple of 1940s horror comedies! Condition: fine. Both cards are in wonderful condition! Learn More about condition grades
