An Autographed 3" x 5" [8 x 13 cm] Index Card (Learn More) Judd Hirsch was born in The Bronx in New York City and was a physics major when he graduated from the City College of New York, and he married while he was in college, but that marriage only lasted two years. He discovered a love of acting, and he attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. He took what roles he could get, including in a Colorado stock company, but in 1966, at the age of 31, he made his Broadway debut in Barefoot in the Park. He continued to appear in many plays, and in 1973, he was in the opening night cast of the hit play, The Hot L Baltimore. In 1974, after two uncredited bit movie parts, he played the lead in John Badham's superb TV movie "The Law", and he returned for a two part sequel the following year. Hirsch really stood out as public defender Murray Stone, and it led to his starring role in a TV series, Delvecchio. That show lasted just one season, but the following season Hirsch got the lead role of Alex Reiger in the wonderful ensemble TV series, Taxi, surely one of the best cast and funniest TV shows ever! While appearing in Taxi, Hirsch took time out to make a few movies, including Ordinary People, where he was nominated for an Oscar, and he also won a Tony Award for "I'm Not Rappaport". In 1988, he had the lead in another wacky TV show, Dear John. In 1992, Hirsch, then 57, married Bonni Chalkin 34, and they had a son and a daughter, but they divorced in 2005. In the 1990s and 2000s, he has alternated between TV (both guest appearances and series), movies, and and the theater, winning another Tony Award for Conversations With My Father. In 2005 he took a role in TV's Numb3rs, as the father of both a brilliant mathematician and an FBI Agent, who together solve crimes. Judd Hirsch has had a long exemplary career on TV, on the stage, and in a few movies. He will surely forever be best remembered as Alex Reiger from Taxi (and it WAS a wonderful role in a great series), but if you can ever see the 1974 TV movie The Law, go out of your way to do so, because it IS that good! As of 2021, he is still alive at the age of 86! Important Added Info: This index card has been personally autographed (signed) by Judd Hirsch! The index card could be matted with a vintage or repro still and framed together to make a cool display! Note that this autographed item is part of a remarkable collection. In each of our last several all-signed auctions, we auctioned hundreds of items from this collection and now we are auctioning 50 signed index cards (plus many signed photos and miscellaneous other signed items that have a different note on those)! In the 1970s, our consignor was a teacher who taught a film class, and he also part-time ran the local movie theater (and he saved all the presskits from the movies the theater showed). Starting in the late 1970s through the late 1980s, he wrote to famous celebrities, and enclosed an 8x10 from his collection (or sometimes a different size photo or other item), and he wrote a literate personalized letter, talking about his work as a film teacher, and discussing his favorite movie by that star. See our other note with the other signed items from this consignor for more about how he acquired them. But in additional to sending photos and other items with images of the star, he would also enclose an index card, and mention that the star could sign the index card if they didn't want to sign the photo. He found that many, many stars would sign both! This auction is for one of 50 index cards which he received back from the celebrities who he had written to. He of course does not have any "Certificates of Authenticity", but he only kept ones he felt were surely authentic, and those are the ones we are auctioning. However, bidders can certainly compare the signatures to known examples on the internet to judge for themselves. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
