eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 7d113 RED SPIDERS herald 1914 Warner Bros when they were Warner Features, New York crime, rare! Date Sold 6/4/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 5 3/4" x 8 1/4" [15 x 21 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) The Red Spiders, the 1914 silent New York City kidnapping gang crime thriller ("In three parts"; "A gripping photoplay teeming with excitement and spirited action"; "A story of New York's Underworld"; about a notorious gang of international thieves, known as The Red Spiders, who travel between New York and "The Mysterious Orient", where they kidnap Asian women, by drugging them, and then they bring them back to New York City, where they are hypnotized into becoming Oriental dancers, and presumably prostitutes!). Note that while this is certainly a very interesting sounding movie, what is far more interesting is that it is one of the very early movies made by the four Warner brothers (Harry, Albert, Sam, and Jack), but a number of years before they became the "Warner Bros."! In 1912, they were partners with Carl Laemmle in his Independent Motion Picture Company, but they soon broke off from him and formed "Warner Features", and began producing movies in late 1912, and made 241 movies through early 1915! They had their big break in 1917 when they bought the rights to "My Four Years in Germany", which they made into a movie the following year, and its success allowed them to move to Culver City, California, where they established their studio. They did not do well in 1919 and 1920, and in 1921 they moved to Hollywood, and with movies like "Why Girls Leave Home", they soon became a very successful Hollywood studio. But this movie was made many years before that, and movie paper from any of those 241 movies from between 1912 and 1915 is surely unbelievably rare! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, movie paper from the Warner Features films from 1912 to 1915 is beyond rare. Prior to being consigned this herald (and one other, which we are auctioning in a separate auction), we had never auctioned any movie paper from any of those 241 movies, and it might be a very long time before we auction any others!
