An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Cleopatra, the classic 1917 J. Gordon Edwards historical Ancient Egypt royalty silent romantic epic melodrama ("The Siren of the Nile"; "Direct from record engagement at the Lyric Theatre N.Y.") starring Theda Bara (in the title role "as Cleopatra, The Siren of the Nile"), Fritz Leiber (as Caesar), Thurston Hall (as Antony), Alan Roscoe, Herschel Mayall, and Dorothy Drake. Note that this movie, like the other most major movies of this time, initially played for six months at a single theater in New York City. We don't know what posters were exhibited during that six month time, but the one-sheet poster (with the most classic image of Theda Bara) was created immediately after that, when the movie was first released to other theaters! Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this glass slide has an odd negative image (we don't know for what purpose it was created). We sold the identical glass slide, but with a positive image on 7/11/04, and it sold for $271.88! If anyone knows more about this slide, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: fair. The pane of glass with the image on it was cracked across the middle. All of the black tape around the edges was lost, and someone taped the two panes of glass together.
