An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Jumbo Lobby Card (LC; measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Lillian Roth (born Lillian Rutstein) was an actress from the 1920s to the 1970s. She started in vaudeville with her sister Ann as "The Roth Sisters", but when Lillian started making movies, the sisters went their separate ways. Lillian was a sexy actress whose turbulent off camera life gained her far more notoriety than her movie work. She had stage fright and other nervous disorders, and she self medicated with alcohol and drugs, and she soon became an alcoholic and was married six times, and was never single for long. Her life was the basis for the movie "I'll Cry Tomorrow" starring Susan Hayward, which brought alcoholism into the consciousness of mainstream America. Some of her movies include: The Love Parade, Animal Crackers, Boardwalk, Madam Satan, and Communion. She passed away in 1980 at the age of 69, ironically living longer than Susan Hayward, who passed away in 1975 at the age of 57. Important Added Info: Note that all of the studios made "vertical" half-sheet posters (28" x 22") that each had an image of their top stars, sometimes with no borders, and sometimes with borders. These started in the very early 1910s, and continued into the middle 1940s! Sometimes they would be distributed with specific movies from those stars, and sometimes they would be sold as sets. They are all at least somewhat rare, and some are impossible to find. In addition, studios made similar "jumbo lobby card portraits" (17" x 14"), also with a vertical orientation, and also with a head shot of a leading star. These are even more rare than the half-sheet portraits, and a very few of them are known to exist. We have been consigned an amazing large collection of jumbo lobby cards, which includes a number of these portraits, and all of them are being auctioned, each in its own auction. This is a rare opportunity to purchase these super rarities! Condition: fair to good. There are dot stains scattered in the image, including in Roth's face. There are creases, stains, and paper loss in the upper right border, and tiny paper loss in the top corners. Learn More about condition grades
