A Linenbacked French Advertising Poster (measures 9 3/4" x 13 1/4" [25 x 34 cm]) (Learn More) Dubonnet is a sweet, aromatised wine-based aperitif. It is a blend of fortified wine, herbs, and spices (including a small amount of quinine), with fermentation being stopped by the addition of alcohol. Dubonnet was first sold in 1846 by Joseph Dubonnet, in response to a competition run by the French Government to find a way of persuading French Foreign Legionnaires in North Africa to drink quinine (which combats malaria but is very bitter). Artist: d'apres Adolphe Mouron Cassandre Important Added Info: Note that this poster reuses the Adolphe Mouron Cassandre art art from the first printing of this French poster, but because it was not the first time the art was used, the poster designer added "d'apres", to signify that. Note that this poster is linenbacked, and normally we would send linenbacked posters rolled in a tube, but because this is a very small poster, and because rolling it might caused it to have creases, we intend to send it in a flat package instead (however, if the purchaser of this poster also purchases other linen posters, and absolutely wants us to send it rolled with those other linens, we will do so). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had some creases, scuffs, and tears scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
