Date Sold 2/3/2019 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 25 English stills of Greta Garbo. Note that these are from a 1955 re-release of Greta Garbo films in England. There had been a very successful re-release of Camille in Sweden just before this, and it was the success of that release that caused MGM to redistribute these films in England in a major way. This lot consists of 19 8x10 stills and one 7x9, many of which show candid images of the theater these films played at, and one has artwork by Roger Soubie (see our images). There are also some brochures and a mini poster that were created fort his promotion. Of course, Greta Garbo was a legendary romantic Swedish actress from the 1924 to 1941 (she retired, still extremely popular, and lived in seclusion for many decades afterwards, living by her trademark expression, "I want to be alone"). Almost all other major leading ladies of the mid 1920s had their careers diminished or ruined by the coming of sound, but not Garbo, all the more remarkable because she was not native English-speaking and she had a strong accent. Some of her movies include: Ninotchka (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Queen Christina, Grand Hotel, Anna Christie (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Romance (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and Camille (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film).
