An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Large Movie Poster (31x47; measures 30" x 46 3/4" [76 x 119 cm]) (Learn More)

Belle-Maman Fait du Magnetisme (literally translates to "Mother-in-Law is a Magnetist"), the 1911 French/Italian silent science-fiction (sci-fi) fantasy family relationship comedy. Note that this film seems to be about a mother with an incorrigible son-in-law, and she uses her magical powers to force him to stop being a cad. If anyone knows more about this movie (apparently, an example of it exists in the British Film Institute in an English language version, so maybe someone has seen that), please e-mail us and we will post it here. Obviously, this is clearly one of the earliest science fiction fantasy movies. It is completely forgotten today, except by major film buffs, but maybe it will be rediscovered.
Artist: Faria
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny bits of paper loss scattered in parts of some folds. It appears that the poster was in "very good" condition prior to linenbacking. At some point after it was backed, it was roughly handled, and it acquired creases in the upper right background area and one to the right of the man at upper left's foot. These are creases in both the poster and the linen, and they have caused the poster to "crack" in those areas. One could live with those defects, or have further restoration performed, but bear in mind this unusual defect before bidding on this extremely rare poster.
