An Original Vintage Linenbacked Circus Poster (measures 28 1/2" x 57 3/4") (Learn More)

Harmston's Circus, the circa 1930s circus poster ("Dare Devil J. Jenkins in the leap for life on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle"), which features as its primary act a motorcycle jumper, J. Jenkins. This poster features a great image of daredevil J. Jenkins performing daredevil stunts on is Harley-Davidson motorcycle! Apparently, this poster was from when the Harmston's Circus appeared in India in the 1930s (the circus had been founded in the 1890s, and apparently in the 1930s, it went on tour to Calcutta, India). If anyone knows more about this poster or this circus, or "J. Jenkins", please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was printed in three sections. There were creases, tears, and areas of paper loss across the middle of all three sections, and tears and fold separation on some of the vertical folds. There had been tape on the back of the far right of the middle fold (to the left and right of the cycle rider's head, in the yellow background only), and there was tape bleed through to the front. There were some scuffs scattered throughout the image, mostly in the solid yellow background. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was not that well backed, and the restoration is visible, and the poster is "lifting" from the linen in several places. A talented restorer could certainly re-glue those areas without re-backing the poster, but it might make more sense to have the poster re-backed, so it could have better restoration along the foldlines!
