An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 17 1/4" x 23" [44 x 58 cm]) (Learn More) Le Roi des Champs-Elysees (released in the U.S. as "King of the Champs Elysees"), the 1934 Max Nosseck French mistaken identity suicide crime screwball comedy starring Buster Keaton (in a dual role, as a poor down-and-out man, and as an escaped convict, who he is mistaken for!), Paulette Dubost, Colette Darfeuil, Madeleine Guitty, and Jacques Dumesnil. Note that this French movie was only shown twice in the U.S. before it was given a Los Angeles premiere in 2005! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster does not measure the size of pre-War Belgians, but we believe that it is from 1934. Why? Because it measures almost exactly half the size of pre-War Belgians, and it is larger than post-war Belgians (we have also auctioned a Belgian poster from "After the Thin Man" that is approximately the same size as this poster). Therefore, we think it is likely that this is a second smaller Belgian poster from the first Belgian release of this movie in 1934, and that there is likely a larger pre-War Belgian from this same title (which may or may not have the same art). Also, note that the blank top has been trimmed (as was common with Belgian posters) and it now measures 17 1/4" x 23".
If anyone knows more about this poster or exactly when it was released, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was folded once horizontally and once vertically, and there were some tiny tears and tiny areas of paper loss on the horizontal fold, but was otherwise in nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
