An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Rio, the 1941 Harry Lachman South America Rio De Janeiro Brazil Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("It's Chan's most spine-tingling mystery!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Mary Beth Hughes, Cobina Wright Jr., Ted North, Victor Jory, Harold Huber, Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan), Richard Derr, Jacqueline Dalya, Kay Linaker, and Iris Wong. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: fair. There are eight small circular tears with some tiny paper loss in the left of the card, mostly in Sen Yung's jacket, as well as two in the right corners and one near the center of the image, with scuffs surrounding that area in Toler's jacket. The card is rippled throughout due to exposure to moisture. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Please do not bid on this card unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored. Learn More about condition grades
