Robert Zemp, the 1917 Swiss advertising encouraging people to purchase office furniture from Robert Zemp (located in Lucerne, Switzerland), and featuring Carl Franz Moos art of a stylish man in a suit above many examples of office furniture. Carl Franz Moos was born in Munich in 1878 and died in Zurich in 1959. He worked as a painter, graphic designer and stage designer. After studying nude and model drawing in Munich, he worked for a short time as an embroidery designer. In 1897 he was an illustrator for the Munich Daily Press and designed sports and travel postcards. He became a successful poster designer in Munich and a member of the Munich poster artists' group "Die Sechs" (The Six). In 1916 he moved to Zurich and in 1924 he took part in a competition for painters to renew the stage design of old repertory operas at the Stadttheater Zurich (Zurich City Theater). His Expressionist sketches for the opera Tannhauser won first prize and were implemented in 1925. From 1928-1933 he was creative director for Orell Fussli in Zurich.
Artist: Carl Franz Moos
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had a few small tears in the borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was nicely backed with no excess paper around the edges, and it displays well! It appears the paperbacking was primarily done for conservation purposes and not for restoration purposes.
