eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4j003 MURDER OVER NEW YORK 1sh '40 Sidney Toler as Charlie Chan, sexiest Joan Valerie, rare! Date Sold 2/7/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Murder Over New York, the 1940 Harry Lachman New York City World War II (WWII) Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Exciting Thrilling!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers"; the great detective joins the war effort, helping expose spies who are sabotaging U.S. made bomber planes about to be sent to England to fight against the Nazis) starring Marjorie Weaver, Robert Lowery, Ricardo Cortez, Donald MacBride, Melville Cooper, Joan Valerie, Kane Richmond, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Sen Yung"; as Jimmy Chan, No. 2 son!), Sidney Toler ("as Charlie Chan"), Shemp Howard, and Donald MacBride. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that this is the first time we have ever auctioned a one sheet poster for this movie! Condition: good. There are patches of slight discoloration scattered mostly throughout the lower half of the poster due to exposure to moisture and the elements. There are some pinholes around the edges and vertical foldline (some are torn or enlarged due to rough removal) and there are two small areas of paper loss at left along the horizontal fold (in the image of Toler's left cheek).
