An Original 1940 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Two-Sided Japanese Press Sheet Movie Poster (14x20; measures 10 1/2" x 14 1/4" [27 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Olympia 1. Teil - Fest der Volker (released in the U.S. as "The Olympiad"), the 1938 Leni Riefenstahl (movie actress who became a director for Hitler and made "Triumph of the Will" and this film) German Olympic sports documentary featuring documentary footage of the Olympic events, which included the top athletes from Germany, but also from the other competing countries, including the black athletes from the U.S., most notably Jesse Owens and Ralph Metcalfe. Adolf Hitler appears in the movie, and there are additional sequences of athletes performing (some in the nude), which were filmed especially for this movie. Note that this documentary on the 1936 Berlin Olympics was so massive that it was released in two parts (the first part was "Olympia Part I: Festival of the Nations", and the second part was "Olympia Part II: Festival of Beauty"; so technically this movie should be referred to as "Festival of the Nations", but because most people know it under the title of "Olympia" or "Olympiad", we refer to it in that way). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: H. Mogun Important Added Info: Note that in 2011, we were consigned an example of this Japanese press sheet, which at that time was the only Japanese poster from this classic movie that we have ever auctioned (it sold for $333). Now, six years later, we were consigned a different example of this press sheet, and also an example of the 21" x 30 1/2" Japanese poster for this movie, which are the second and third Japanese posters we have ever seen from this most historic German movie. Note that this poster is double-sided, but not in the regular way. There is a different image on each side of the poster. We have provided an image of each side, and please realize that the winner of this auction will receive ONE poster! Condition: very good. The poster was folded across the middle. It has darkening on the back (where the black and white image and printing is), but no darkening on the front. It has four circular holes in the top blank white area of the color image side, which slightly affect the images on the back (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
