LIGHTS OF NEW YORK ('28) LIGHTS OF NEW YORK ('28) WC, regular OR search current auctions Auction History Result 3z071 LIGHTS OF NEW YORK local theater WC '28 Helene Costello, Warner Bros 1st all-talking movie! Date Sold 11/17/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded "Local Theater" Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 18" x 22 1/4" [46 x 57 cm]) (Learn More) Lights of New York, the 1928 Bryan Foy New York City romantic love triangle mistaken identity crime thriller ("The First 'All Talking' Picture"; even though "The Jazz Singer" is often referred to as the first talking picture, it actually was not!; it had only partial sound sections, including, of course, singing by Jolson, but it also had inter-titles; this movie is actually the first feature movie with all synchronous dialogue, and is truly "the first all talking picture", as it was billed at the time of its release!) starring Helene Costello, Cullen Landis, Mary Carr, Wheeler Oakman, Gladys Brockwell, and Eugene Pallette. Note that Mary Carr became a major star in the mid 1910s around the age of 40, playing the parts of saintly mothers. She continued to make movies (switching to grandmother roles) through the mid 1930s, and then continued with mostly uncredited parts until the mid 1950s. She passed away in 1973 at the age of 99! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Also note that this window card was made for a specific local theater (the "Colonial Theater" in Haverhill, Massachusetts, built by Louis B. Mayer sometime around 1911!). Often larger theaters would hire local artists to create their own "local theater window cards" like this one. They would often feature artwork that appeared on no other posters, and they were NOT issued by the studio that released the movie. Condition: fair. There are several enlarged tack holes throughout the poster and there is some water staining and light rippling throughout. There are some tears and areas of tattering and small paper loss around the edges of the poster. Learn More about condition grades
