Date Sold 8/29/2010Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) A 1929 set of 5 glass slides, four Song-Hit Slides and one Art Melody Slide. Each contains lyrics to a song sung by Al Jolson. These slides were shown in sequence so the audience could sing along, similar to later "follow the bouncing ball" cartoons. Theaters would be sent an entire set of slides for a specific song (sometimes five, sometimes more, depending on how long the song was). The slides offered here are from two different songs, and both songs are incomplete. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good. Four of the slides are in pretty nice condition. One of the slides (the one that starts with "When there are gray skies") has many cracks in a Y-shaped pattern.
