A Photographic Negative (measures 4" x 5" [10 x 13 cm]) (Learn More) Gershwin's Girl Crazy, the 1943 Norman Taurog romantic cowboy western musical ("The big musical with Broadway flair and a western air!"; "an entire score by George Gershwin, Nancy Walker, and Frances Rafferty"; "Music by George Gershwin"; "Lyrics by Ira Gershwin"; "Based upon musical play 'Girl Crazy' by Guy Bolton and Jack McGowan") starring Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Nancy Walker (before she gained fame in the "Rhoda" TV series!), Gil Stratton, Robert E. Strickland, 'Rags' Ragland, June Allyson, Guy Kibbee, and Tommy Dorsey and his Orchestra. Note that this was an unusual combination of talents with Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, and Tommy Dorsey performing songs by George and Ira Gershwin, but all with a "Western air" (but with the usual "Broadway flair"). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: This negative comes with a very sad caption sheet from the Wide World wire service. It says that "Judy Garland, now out of her teens, is as charming as ever, and her voice has that richness with grows with the years. Judy at 20, likes to peek into the future. 'I'd like to get to the graceful age - between 30 and 40. I'd like to be the tall, suave type with two children'. She has grown very thin, she has been more or less rundown for a year planning to take a vacation for three months as soon as her picture Girl Crazy is completed." The negative comes with an envelope that has a news caption glued onto it. Note that this (or these, in the case of multiple negatives) was created by and sent by the studio that produced this (in the year noted on this auction) to newspapers, magazines, TV stations, or reviewers, so that they could use them to create the highest quality ads. They can be used to make very high quality reproductions, but bear in mind that we are solely auctioning the physical negatives and NOT the right to reproduce them, so unless they are public domain, the new owner must acquire the rights elsewhere before reproducing them. NOTE THAT THE ITEM(S) YOU ARE PURCHASING IS A "NEGATIVE" THAT HAS A REVERSE IMAGE, AS SEEN IN OUR PHOTO (we also scanned them as well, using a special "negative setting", which reverses the image, so that you can see how the negative appears when you reverse the image, but the buyer of this auction will receive one or more negatives, NOT a positive image, as seen in our special scan).
