4 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More)

Booth Tarkington's Edgar's Hamlet (also released as "Shakespeare's Hamilet"), the 1920 E. Mason Hopper silent juvenile slapstick comedy short ("The adventures and emotions of Edgar Pomeroy"; VERY loosely based on Hamlet by "William Shakespeare") starring Edward Peil Jr. (in the title role as Edgar Pomeroy), Cordelia Callahan, Nick Cogley, John Cossar, Marie Dunn, and Harry Penn (a black African American child actor of the 1920s; he was identified for us by a film historian, but he is not listed in any databases that we could find). Note that this was one of a dozen shorts made in 1920 and 1921 that were all based on Booth Tarkington "Adventures and Emotions of Edgar Pomeroy" short stories about a juvenile man named Edgar, who has many adventures, and he and his teenage friends travel to exotic locales (where they encounter adults), and even reenact Shakespeare's Hamlet in this short (and this short is currently available for viewing on the internet)! We don't know what became of Mr. Peil after he made the Edgar movies, because it is difficult to find any information about him, but we know that he lived until 1962, when he passed away at the age of 54. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that we attempted to research this movie but found next to nothing about it anywhere on the Internet. There are three stills of a black African American child actor, but we were unable to identify him. One of them, the portrait in a white shirt, has a stamp on the back that reads "PHOTO BY CLARENCE SINCLAIR BULL", which is surely one of the earliest Bull photographs! If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good to very good. The photo that is stamped by Bull on the reverse has discoloration next to the boy's eye and under his other eye and on the bridge of his nose. The other three stills have some minor border wear (see our images).
