He was born in 1911 in Nebraska, and in high school he was a star athlete, a cello player, and a debate champion. He intended to become a musician, but in college he joined a theater group and he was given lead roles. In 1934, he was signed by MGM to a contract, and the next year he had his big break in the first version of "Magnificent Obsession", opposite Irene Dunne. The following year, he starred opposite Greta Garbo in "Camille", and he was a great favorite with female moviegoers. He remained with MGM for 24 years, interrupted by a 4 year stint in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II. In the 1930s, he raised and bred race horses! From 1939 to 1952, he was married to Barbara Stanwyck, and from 1954 until he passed away he was married to Ursula Theiss. Because he aged really well, he was able to play leading roles until the end of his career, when he switched to TV. Taylor passed away in 1969 at the age of 57. Important Added Info: Note that although these stills were "printed in Great Britain", they have full NSS information. They may have been intended to be used in both countries, but at least some movies have both these NSS stills and also English FOH stills with the same images, and we have never heard from a collector who saw the NSS stills in UK theaters. A knowledgeable collector suggests that these NSS stills were used solely in the U.S., and that perhaps studios printed them in Great Britain as a way to "use up" UK profits and avoid having to pay taxes. If anyone knows more about these stills, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: good to very good. Some have creases and other defects that can be clearly seen in our super-sized image. Some are in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
