Lillian Russell, the 1940 Irving Cummings historical musical fictionalized biography romantic melodrama ("Her beauty and glamor brought the world to her feet... yet she longed to love one man so madly that nothing else could matter!"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck; about the famous stage singer, Lillian Russell, and her love affairs) starring Alice Faye (in the title role "as Lillian Russell"), Don Ameche ("as Edward Solomon"), Henry Fonda ("as Alexander Moore"), Edward Arnold ("as Diamond Jim Brady", reprising his role from the movie "Diamond Jim"), Warren William ("as the famous J.L."), Leo Carrillo ("as Tony Pastor"), Helen Westley, Dorothy Peterson, Ernest Truex, Nigel Bruce, Lynn Bari, Claud Allister (billed as "Claude Allister"), Joe Weber, Eddie Foy, Una O'Connor, and Joseph Cawthorn

Important Added Info: Note that this poster was linenbacked many years ago, and the linenbacker was unable to find a single piece of linen that was large enough to mount the entire poster (I have talked to long-time restorers, and they all had this problem at one time!). So the restorer did the next best thing, which was to linenback the two large pieces (which forms the top 2/3 of the poster) together on one large piece of linen, and then separately linenbacked the two small pieces of the poster (which form the bottom 1/3 of the poster) on a separate piece of linen. As you can see in our image, the two separate linenbacked parts of the poster can easily be displayed together, and no doubt could be framed together. Another alternative would be to have a talented restorer remove the poster from the separate pieces of linen, and re-back them together on to a single piece of linen (I have had this done to a six-sheet poster that was backed in the same way, for my personal collection, and the resulting re-linenbacked poster looks magnificent!). But please do not bid on this poster unless you have read the above, and realize that you will be receiving a poster that has been linenbacked onto two separate pieces of linen.

Condition: very good. The bottom section of the poster (which was separately linenbacked; see above) was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. It had just a few creases and small tears on the foldlines, and tiny paper loss at some crossfolds. The top section of the poster (which was separately linenbacked; see above) was in very good condition. It had a 1" x 2" area of paper loss at the bottom of the "U" of "RUSSELL", extending into the white background beneath. There was small paper loss and tears at the crossfold that falls in the bottom center of Faye's hat, at the top of her hair (but there is no paper loss in her face or figure, which is very fortunate!). There was small paper loss at some other crossfolds, and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on some other foldlines. There were some smudges in the white background areas of both sections. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but the restorer did not attempt to make the poster look "perfect", so you can still see signs of the restoration of the above defects, but they are not very noticeable or distracting. I think most collectors would be happy to display this poster just as it is, and certainly, if it is re-linenbacked on to a single piece of linen, the poster's basically minor defects can be more thoroughly restored, and the poster will look incredible!
