A 1980 Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 38 1/4" [69 x 97 cm]) (Learn More) The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the cult classic 1974 Tobe Hooper Bryanston horror slasher thriller ("Who will survive and what will be left of them?"; "America's most bizarre and brutal crimes!..."; "What happened is true. Now the motion picture that's just as real.") starring Marilyn Burns, Paul A. Partain, Edwin Neal (as the hitchhiker), Jim Siedow, Gunnar Hansen ("as Leatherface"), William Vail, Teri McMinn, John Larroquette (as the narrator), Allen Danziger, and John Dugan NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was first released by tiny Bryanston Pictures in 1974. The movie did not get a much wider release until 1980 from New Line Cinema. This poster is from the 1980 New Line Cinema re-release. It is hard to know that, because the image and credits are the same on both posters, and the main difference is the releasing studio, but this poster both has that credit covered with a Canadian studio snipe (Astral Films) and it also has its bottom 2 3/4" trimmed off (it now measures 27" x 38 1/4" [69 x 97 cm]). However, we can tell by looking at the snipe under a very bright light that the studio credited under it is New Line Cinema, so that guarantees that this is the 1980 re-release. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The bottom 2 3/4" of the poster was trimmed off (and there is a distributor snipe at the right of the credits; see above). Otherwise, the poster had fine surface paper loss on parts of some foldlines (typical of high-gloss posters of this period), and it also had diagonal creases and stains at the right ends of the top and bottom folds, extending into the edge of the image. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed pretty well, but the restorer did not address the trimming or the distributor snipe, so bear all of this in mind before bidding on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
