An Original Vintage Unfolded Stage Play Poster (measures 28" x 42 1/4" [71 x 107 cm]) (Learn More) Uncle Tom's Cabin Company, the circa 1900-1909 traveling stage play production (based on the novel by Harriet Beecher Stowe). Posters from any stage production of Uncle Tom's Cabin are incredibly difficult to accurately date (unless they are dated, of course, but virtually none are). This is because there were endless stage productions of this play from 1890 on, all over the U.S. We have no doubt that companies would print posters that local touring companies would order, which would explain why they rarely had any credits of any kind, no doubt so they could be used by any touring company. Our best guess on this poster is that it dates to the very early 1900s, but it could be from the 1890s. We would doubt very much that it is from after 1919. If anyone knows more about any of this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters! Condition: fair to good. The poster was never folded. It had many tears in the lower left, extending into the trees and the bottom left of the ice, and also into the left of the writing at bottom. It also had many smudges and a few stains around the edges, with tiny tears and tiny paper loss in parts of the bottom border. Someone put a great deal of paper tape on the back of all of the above areas. Any talented restorer could remove the tape from the back of the poster and linenback it, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
