An Original 1953 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Folded Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78") (Learn More) Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan's Desert Mystery, the 1943 Wilhelm Thiele Africa action adventure jungle thriller ("Mightiest of Tarzan thrillers!"; "See boy trapped in the web of the murderous giant spider!"; "See Tarzan's fierce death battle with prehistoric monsters!"; "See Tarzan, and his friends flee the treacherous deadly sandstorm!"; "See Tarzan in the grip of the strange man-eating plant!"; "Based upon the characters created by Edgar Rice Burroughs"; "From a story by Carroll Young") starring Johnny Weissmuller (in the title role as Tarzan), Nancy Kelly, Johnny Sheffield (as Boy), Otto Kruger, Joe Sawyer, Lloyd Corrigan, Robert Lowery, Frank Puglia, Phil Van Zandt and Cheetah (the chimpanzee). Note that this was the second RKO Tarzan, and once again, Maureen O'Sullivan could not be hired, because she was an MGM contract player, and RKO did not want to cast a "new" Jane, so they once again explained her absence by saying that she was away, working as a nurse for the British troops in World War II! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Enzo Nistri Important Added Info: Note that the theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces). Also note that this Italian two-panel poster was printed in 2 sections (designed to overlap) and when combined, the poster measures 55" x 78". Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. Condition: fair to good. The theater that used this poster glued the pieces together before putting them on display (this is typical of many actual theater-used posters in multiple pieces).
