An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The Golden Eye, the 1948 William Beaudine Texas Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers' character") starring Roland Winters ("as Charlie Chan"), Mantan Moreland, Victor Sen Yung (billed as "Victor Sen Young"; as Tommy Chan), Wanda McKay, Tim Ryan, Evelyn Brent, and Ralph Dunn. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that while we have auctioned several first release U.S. lobby cards and inserts from this movie, we have never before auctioned this first release one-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster's borders had been trimmed off. It also had small paper loss at the crossfolds and smudges and fine surface paper loss on parts of the folds. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Given the poster's many defects, the restorer did a pretty good job of making it presentable, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
