(Learn More) The Taming of the Shrew, the 1929 Sam Taylor romantic comedy melodrama ("The all-talking all laughing comedy smash!"; "An adaptation of Shakespeare's glorious comedy"; "Together!"; very loosely based on the play by William Shakespeare; about an "untameable" woman who seems destined to never marry, but then she meets a man determined to "conquer" her) starring Mary Pickford (in the title role as Katherine), Douglas Fairbanks Sr. (as Petruchio), Edwin Maxwell, Joseph Cawthorn, and Clyde Cook. Note that this was the first time these great stars (who had been married for many years) appeared together in a movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1929 movie paper of any kind from this Douglas Fairbanks Sr./Mary Pickford movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single poster from this movie, but now that we have been consigned this wonderful pressbook, we now know what all the posters look like! Note that when studios would prepare pressbooks they would often include a sample of the herald. Most often, the herald is no longer still with the pressbook. Sometimes, the herald by itself will sell for almost as much as the rest of the entire pressbook! This pressbook contains the original herald that was included with it, and it is pictured next to the pressbook below. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good to fine, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It is folded across the middle. United Artists pressbooks at this time had an address area printed on part of the back cover and this pressbook was sent to theaters with paper tape that held it together on the top and bottom of the back of the pressbook. Otherwise, it is in really nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
