Blue Blazes, the 1922 Robert Kelly & Charles W. Mack silent romantic boxing sports melodrama ("5 reels - produced under the personal supervision of Charles W. Mack"; the hero is a champion boxer who gets bored and he goes out west, and he is robbed, and falls in with a bunch of vagrants, not revealing who he actually is, and he ends up on a ranch, where, in an original plot twist, there lives a girl and her mother, and there are bad guys trying to steal the ranch from them!; naturally, he saves the ranch for them and falls in love with the girl, and only after she agrees to marry him does he tell her that he is not a broke vagrant, but actually a rich champion boxer) starring Lester Cuneo (billed as the "Smiling Daredevil"), Francelia Billington, Fanny Midgley, Bert Sprotte, and Roy Watson. Note that Lester Cuneo had been a major comedy star at the Selig Studio in 1912, but after just a few movies, he chose to re-invent himself as a cowboy star, and had success there as well, also playing dramatic roles at the same time. He served in World War I (WWI), and returned to Hollywood and again began making westerns, playing a character billed as "The Smiling Daredevil". But by the early 1920s, his westerns were less and less successful, and after a series of personal and professional failures, Cuneo could not get any parts at all, and he committed suicide in 1925.
